Learn How To Stop Dog Hair Shedding!

Where To Start

  • Start off your journey of controlling and living with dog hair shedding by understanding that all dogs shed their hair. Think of it as a little trade off for the pleasure they give to us.
  • Then you will need to start a weekly grooming routine and give your dog a properly balanced diet. To obtain a healthy looking, shinny, soft, less shedding coat you have to start on the inside.  Healthy skin results in a healthy coat.
  • Healthy looking coats need the proper balance of essential fatty acids and biotin, a B-vitamin.  The essential fatty acids make your pets coat thicker and more shinny while biotin works as a nutritional enzyme for their complete synthesis.
  • You first need to restore the essential fatty acids that have been processed out of most commercial pet foods.
  • Find out what your breed of dogs hair type is Short, Medium, Long, Coarse, Fine, Curly or Straight. Then you can decide the proper grooming tools you will need.
  • It is recommended for short hair use a soft bristle brush. Medium hair and long hair use a wire pin brush with long pins or medium bristol brush with long bristles and a slicker brush to remove mats and tangles. Fine hair use a wire pin brush with short pins and a soft bristle brush . Curly hair use a firm bristle brush and slicker brush. Straight hair use a wire pin brush or firm bristle brush to groom your dog weekly. During times of heavy shedding use a deshedding brush.
  • It is important to include bathing in your dogs grooming routine. Do not bath your dog more than once a week and no longer than once a month. Make certain to use a shampoo made specific for dogs. See the Bathing page for more details.
